What's different about the CTi as compared to other knee braces?

Every single CTi knee ligament brace is carefully handcrafted in the USA. The carbon fibre is laid specifically for each custom unit to properly match upper and lower leg proportions in order to support the knee joint correctly.

  • CT knee braces are designed with the fundamental bracing theory of a rigid frame design. We strongly believe that a rigid frame design is necessary for proper knee control. The rigid system provides brace-to-bone contact, without bending or deflecting, to maintain femur-tibial alignment.

  • The way CTi is secured to the leg: the human leg has a lot of muscle mass, and that mass constantly shifts around during exercise as the muscle flex and extends. While the calf fluctuates more during this process than any other muscle on the leg, the muscles on the front of the tibia hardly move at all. This is the place where the CTi is locked into position with a rigid piece that wraps around the shin.

  • The Accutrac hinge system, which is based on polycentric knee movement. Just as the knee does not have a solitary axis, the Accutrac hinge has multiple points too, which, as the name implies, accurately tracks the movements of the knee.

  • Sensil® breathable lining increases comfort and reduces slippage.

Why custom bracing?

A precise fit means a more effective brace: legs come in all shapes and sizes and it is important that a knee brace fits comfortably and stays in position, no matter what the activity level of the patient. A brace has to produce a significant amount of force in order to stabilise an unstable knee or to unload a damaged knee compartment and in order to achieve this, the knee brace must fit perfectly and stay in position at all times.

By taking digital images and five measurement of the leg, CTi Custom braces account for subtle leg nuances, providing a brace that is truly individual with a problem-free fit, regardless of leg shape, size, or alignment. A broad scope of corrective adjustments is also available with CTi Custom made knee braces.

Comfort, fit and function. Whatever your needs, nothing beats the intimate fit, comfort and security of a CTi Custom-made knee brace.

What are the main differences between a CTi Custom and a CTi Off-the-shelf (OTS) brace?

The CTi Custom is hand-crafted to its owner's exact measurements and takes about two weeks from the time your measurements are taken to being ready for fitting. The CTi OTS is ready made and available immediately in a variety of sizes.

The CTi Custom has two extra lateral arms for extra stability, because having the patient’s exact measurements allow us to manufacture a brace with a more intimate fit and a larger contact area to the leg.

I have a PCL injury what brace do I need?

The CTi custom and OTS braces are available in a PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) version, designed for PCL deficiences and combined instabilities. A thigh pad with adjustable strap applies a force to the quadriceps, while the lower calf plate applies a forward thrust to the lower leg. These two forces work together to prevent the lower leg from sliding backward which is what occurs in PCL deficient injuries.

Do I need my braces fitted by an expert?

The Custom CTi is tailor made to your leg shape and therefore requires measuring and fitting from a qualified technician. Contact Össur on 08450 065 065 for details of specialist clinics that can assess & fit you for a knee brace.

The CTi OTS is ready made and can be purchased from our on-line shop. We do however recommend that all braces should be professionally fitted by a qualified technician to ensure the correct fit is achieved.

How many different models of CTI are available?

There are four models of the CTi Custom, Super Short, Vapour, Pro Sport & O/A. There are two models of the OTS, Standard and Pro Sport, with PCL options on all custom and off the shelf models.

I ride MX, which brace should I buy?

Either the Custom or the OTS can be used for Moto Cross, however we recommend only the “Pro Sport” model be used as this has extra layers of Carbon Fibre to withstand the impacts of the sport. You will also need to order the MX kit, which contains a Patella Cup & a set of Gear Guards for extra protection for you & your brace.

What colour choices are available for the braces?

The Custom CTI is available in a range of 12 standard colour choices. There is also a range of custom designs to choose from, which will cost extra. We can also custom paint your brace to a design or colour of your choice, although this will cost extra also. The OTS braces are only available in black.

Can I use the CTi brace in water?

Yes, all CTi braces are non-corrosive and have been designed with water sports in mind. We recommend the use of an oversleeve when participating in water sports to insure that straps will remain firmly attached in high speed falls. If you will be using the brace in salt water, be sure to rinse the brace and the straps with clear water after each use to remove any salt or debris that might remain.

What extras do I need?

We provide various accessories for the CTi braces. For more information see CTi Custom and CTi Off-the-shelf
